The APA’s recommendations center on the role of parents, but the advisory does denounce algorithms that push young users toward potentially damaging content, including posts that promote self harm, disordered eating, racism and other forms of online hate. The health advisory also does not address specific social platforms, instead tackling a broad set of concerns around kids’ online lives with commonsense advice and insights compiled from broader research. The report doesn’t denounce social media, instead asserting that online social networks are “not inherently beneficial or harmful to young people,” but should be used thoughtfully. Now that we’ve made the countdown way easier, let’s check out the books! We do it together, and then the books are ready for the next year. And I’d rather feel better about less waste and money spent.įinally, part of our tradition is to re-wrap the books the day after Christmas. And often we re-use the paper from year to year. Second, I use brown paper to wrap our books so it can be recycled. Also, we usually forget a few days when we’re busy, so our kids’ Christmas countdown runs behind anyways.
